Jane Cox

I design and make functional and decorative ceramics which whilst conceived
singly, work well as sets both for display and in use.
Silk screen printing and drawing inform my ceramics and recent;ly I have been developing new work: the 'KUFIC' and 'HAJ' black and white work was commissioned by the British Library in conjunction with their Sacred Texts and are inspired by the ancient Ma'il Qur'an.
Kandinsky referred to 'colour as the keyboard' and I respond to colours and patterns found in nature by creating ceramics that range from graphic and dynamic to painterly and sensuous. In the latter resist decoration is used in conjunction with scraffito to convey the sensual movement of wind in grass and trees and where elements of the pattern spiral out rythmically from centre to edge.
