Uwe Loellmann

Uwe Loellmann’s work is resonant of nature’s forms and structures. It is difficult to think of a greater contrast than that between today’s prevailing trends in the arts and his work. His vessels tell us something about our life and the powers of nature. In the present age, with its love of short-lived effects, it really requires courage to root one’s work in the ancient tradition of a craft whose basic material seems to be made for eternity. The extraordinarily expressive and symbolic qualities of clay are most strikingly evoked in Uwe Loellmann’s work.
He belongs to a global network of artists who have made wood-fired ceramics the basis and centre of their work. Within this scene he has struck a new, personal note and created for himself the scope his creative skills require.
