Uwe Loellmann

Uwe Loellmann belongs to a global network of artists who have made wood-fired ceramics the basis and centre of their work. Within this scene he has struck a new, personal note and created for himself the scope his creative skills require.
He fires his kiln twice a year; firings take between seven and ten days. Twenty-five cubic metres and more of pine wood are burned and with every hour the tension of all who are involved increases, for despite the potter’s great experience he can never be sure about the outcome of the firing which requires his constant attention and in which the work of more than six months is at stake. The burning of wood produces ash which is blown on the pots where it partially melts into a natural glaze. The high firing temperature of 1300° Celsius is good for achieving extraordinary results but involves high risks.
