James and Tilla Waters

We both initially trained as painters, then met some years later whilst doing apprenticeships with the potter Rupert Spira.

Our work is all thrown (using both stoneware and porcelain bodies) and designed to be functional. The wheel is also used in decorating the pots, although increasingly the surface concern is with colour. We have produced series of pots where the colour is seen to mutate gradually from one pot to the next. We develop our own glazes which tend to be very smooth and glassy. All of our work is made collaboratively.
