Kate O'Connell

Kate O'Connell is a designer whose inspiration comes from things that have gone before - historical objects of function whose essence can be used as a basis for contemporary craft. Her aim is to use the materials, shapes and textures in a new way, retaining the mood and spirit of the original sources in unusual new designs. Her current work takes a simple every day object - the kind of plate your granny keeps on her sideboard - and massively increases the scale to change how we view it. The mood changes from one of old-fashioned fussiness to that of exaggerated humour and contemporary style.
