Laurance Simon

All my work is handbuilt using white or red earthenware. I have been working in London for the past twenty years exhibiting widely in the UK and abroad after a B.A at Camberwell School of Art and an M.A at Cardiff. I mostly let the clay dictate what i will do next, it can be a vessel or a sculpture, I still marvel at the willingness of the medium to be anything you want it to be so i try to keep the enjoyment of modelling carving and building to a maximum. My work has many inspiration mostly from the natural world, animals but also to a lesser degree architecture. I strive for the whimsical and the lyrical in the work and it is often infused with humour. I try to not take myself too seriously.
I like the challenge of constructing pieces with a delicate sense of balance, a fragile equilibrium for and earthbound material.
