Nuala O'Donovan

My intention is to portray the energy of living forms in my work. I try to do this by combining regular patterns found in nature with the principles of the geometry of fractal forms. I am interested in the narrative suggested by irregularities in patterns in living organisms. The history behind a scarred or broken surface fascinates me. The finished forms are a result of an intuitive response to the direction that the pattern takes as well as the irregularity in the handmade elements of the pattern.
The forms are constructed slowly over a period of weeks or months using individual porcelain elements and fired a number of times during the making process.
