Ruthanne Tudball

All of my work is thrown from soft stoneware clay, which is manipulated and assembled while freshly thrown on the wheel in an attempt to capture the soft, organic quality of the clay and preserve that softness in the finished piece. When leatherhard I either dip, brush or pour on simple slips often adding accents with a trailed ash glaze.
I draw inspiration from the rhythms of the creative forces of the earth and the signs and patterns that are left behind such as tide and rock patterns. I am also greatly inspired by dance and the movement of the human body.
Sodium vapour glazing emphasises the marks and rhythms of the making process. Nothing is hidden. All of my work is once-fired in a wood/gas kiln to cone 10 (1300 C).
